Hook ‘Em Horns
I’m trying to crawl out from the hole that moving has put me into. I’m finally back up and running with internet access though.
Last night, I watched the Rose Bowl, featuring Texas and Southern California. Now I absolutely promise to blog about sports infrequently. But I just gotta brag. Just a little.
I don’t watch football much anymore. It’s a waste of time. My life really isn’t that much better if my team wins or loses. But everynow and then, there’s a game that’s worth watching, and last night’s game was such a game. Number 1 and number 2, undefeated, with this game their goal all season long.
Both teams put up incredible performances. I gotta hand it to Texas though. They could’ve hung their heads and given up so much it aint even funny. Things looked downright bleak, behind 12 points with 6 1/2 to go. But they hung in there, marching straight down the field to score once, stopping USC on a 4th and 2, and then what can you say about Vince Young… On 4th and 5 near the endzone with less than 30 seconds on the clock, he just runs it in. USC probably knew where he was going too. He’s just too fast.
I also enjoyed Texas getting the respect it deserves. Everybody recognizes USC as a great team, even when they lost last night. But I don’t think there’s any way Texas would have gotten respect without winning the game.
And hats off to Pete Carroll (coach at USC). He was so classy. The way he spoke of the game and the other team. I’ve never watched him before (I told you I don’t normally watch football), and I was thoroughly impressed. USC’s quaterback though, Matt Leinart, became just a little reminiscent of a 7 year old who didn’t get his way when he whined,
I still think we’re a better football team. They just made the plays at the end.
Oh how I loved it.
I’ve been watching Texas and rooting for them since our high school quarterback, who was a friend of mine during elementary school, went to UT and started at corner. They’ve gotten oh-so-close many times in the last few years, but this was their year, their moment, and it was the most fun I’ve had watching football in a long time.

I don’t pay attention to football either, but when I woke up this morning, there was E.D. Hill at Fox News wearing her orange and white Longhorn jersey shirt. When I went to bed, Texas was loosing. When I woke up in the morning, they had won. What a thrill! There are so many real life lessons in that game I can’t begin to tell you. You touched on a few. And in your game, Jay, just grab the ball, climb out of the hole, and run for the goal. Keep on keeping on, just like UT.

Mom, you’re seriously embarrassing me!
But I will treat your comment like everyone elses. People are free to say whatever they wish at Ocellated provided they are reasonably civil and don’t use excessive profanity.
Since only one bad word was used (”Fox News”), I fear I have no choice but to leave the comment.
Next time you write something so obviously motherly, please use an F-bomb or two so that I have clear reason to remove your comment.
Jay, both you and your mom need to learn to spell:
That’s Faux News.
