Leave an Anonymous Comment, Go to Jail
Here’s something that might have escaped your attention.
It seems that our politicians, playing the game of politics to the utmost of insanity, have passed an amazing law that makes it illegal to leave annoying comments on the internet if you do not use your name.
Here’s the actual text of the law.
Whoever…utilizes any device or software that can be used to originate telecommunications or other types of communications that are transmitted, in whole or in part, by the Internet… without disclosing his identity and with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any person…who receives the communications…shall be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.
This wonderful piece of legislative wisdom was brought to us by Senator Arlen Specter and signed into law by the president. The article reports that it was attached to another bill that was considered necessary to provide funding to the Justice Department.
Look for the supreme court to rule this unconstitutional the first chance it gets.
