It’s Better Than TV

Well, the plot’s a little slow, but the Cornell Lab of Ornithology has a live video feed of a nesting Barn Owl. Unfortunately, it lacks sound, so you can’t hear beautiful sounds of love like this.
She mostly sits and incubates the eggs, but in the few minutes I watch her, I saw her get up, walk around, and then come back and rotate the eggs with her bill. It’s an intimate view.

The plot may move a little slow but when action happens it’s quick! Last night I watched the male deliver a rodent. The female daintly tore little bites for a minute until her greed or hunger overrode her etiquette. She stood up, swallowed the whole rodent at once, and then stood there for a few more seconds (looking like she might burp) before finally settling down to keep the eggs warm.
This morning both the male and female are snug in their nest box. It certainly will be fasinating watching the wonder of it all. Can’t wait to see the faces only a mother could love. Heh, this is so interesting I might not read your site again until the babies fledge.
