Kent Hovind Arrested

Posted Jul 14th, 2006 at 4:22 pm in Creationism

The big news today is that Kent Hovind, one of the most prominent young earth creationists, has been arrested on 58 federal counts, including evasion of taxes and making threats against investigators. He also allegedly payed his employees with cash while calling them “missionaries” to avoid taxes, and made repeated withdrawls under the $10,000 limit to avoid reporting the transactions. His wife was arrested too, with 44 charges filed against her. The Pensacola News Journal provides the details.

Hovind represents the absolute worst of Christian objectors to evolutionary theory. Long before the federal charges came, even before the state closed down his Dinosaur Adventure Land for lack of a building permit, he’s been lying his way through every argument he makes.

While the pessimist in me doubts it, I really wish this would serve for a wake up call to the many Christians who will accept arguments they want to hear, and ignore the reliability or integrity of the source.

I get on here, and right away, I can see the evolutionists salivating. You guys are the absolute worst that evolutionists can bring. You don’t like Hovind, cuz he gives you guys a great debate, and gives the listeners something else to think about. Why are you so afraid, if your side is telling the truth? If you’re not afraid, then why were you so worried about Kent Hovind?

Salivate all you want, but I have a feeling he’ll be back soon, debating the evolution lie.

Just remember that Wesley Snipes was indicted for tax fraud, and allegedly owes the government 12 million dollars in taxes. He doesn’t have a ministry at all. That’s more than Hovind allegedly owes. Do you think Snipes will get jail time? There’s already some deal made, so Snipes would come back to the USA.

  2. Believer of Truth opines:

Have you ever listened to Kent Hovind speak, I think not! Creation can and has been proved scientifically over and over again, while evolution remains on very shaky ground with no proof! To believe humans, or anything else that exists, came from one oops after another is absolutely preposterous! Evolution is a joke and anyone who believes it seriously needs to have their head examined. Even before I heard about creation I did not believe in evolution. I always thought there had to be another answer, and I found it. I hope you find it too.

  3. friend in christ notes:

i don’t think that kent hovind is doing anything wrong. sure, all of us have to pay taxes but we all live in a stationary place and get help from the government some way or another. kent hovind earned that money he made fair and square and people gave him it for his books and other things. it’s his money and it should be tax exempt. as for social security goes, that should be freedom to choose. an american shouldn’t be forced into paying social security. our money that we pay for that now goes straight to the old people who are gettting social security anywayz. lets face it, this government is broke and scared. if all the americans would stand up and say what kent hovind did, then they could so easily over rule this government. i think the government fails to realize that they are put there for us, by us. we are the rulers, not them. as the for withdrawals from the banks, i’m not sure what the stories are about that or what they mean. i didn’t fully understand that part

  4. That Hovind is not a great guy has nothing to do with the creation/evolution debate. Were Julian and Aldous Huxley great moral leaders? No. There are many serious scientists who support creationism, scientists who neither lie nor cheat either to make their points or live their lives. Hovind just doesn’t happen to be one of them. Try Institute for Creation Research or Answers in Genesis for a start….

  5. KEVIN CRIDER points out:

I REALLY DON’T CARE IF KENT PAYS TAXES. AFTER WATCHING HIS VIDIOS MY LIFE WILL NEVER BE THE SAME. I WISH I HAD THE GUTS THAT HE DOES.

  6. MacShane mentions:

Mr. Hovind appears to scare the Evolution crowd to death. Why do so many people have such hate for this man? He is only one man that has devoted his life to teaching a belief that he is very passionate about. Kent Hovinds’ creation teachings do not hurt anyone. Is it legal to pay income taxes? It certainly is the commonly accepted practice. I for one am NOT going to stop paying my taxes. Is it legal to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ? YES! At least for the time being. Is it legal to have a different opinion than someone else? YES! Why do so many people appear to hate this man? I think that he scares many people to death. His creation case is reasonable to the average person. The case for evolution on the other hand is not. If he is right, all human beings are accountable to a creator for our actions in this world. Even if Dr. Hovind goes to jail for life, his work will carry on. The Genie is out of the bottle now and can’t be put back inside. I believe in rendering unto Caesar, but I also believe that his punishment should fit his crime. Maybe, Kent Hovind should be nailed to a cross for his beliefs. His beliefs really are what this is all about with the people that hate him so deeply, Isn’t it?

(The above statement is in NO WAY intended to speak against the commonly accepted practice of paying Income Tax or the IRS)

  7. globalsecurity opines:

Dr. Hovind is an indivdual who is not afraid to stands for what he and so many others understand. His ‘theories’ outweight the evolutionist theories by far, and therefore ‘they’, the protectors of Darwin’s dreamy evolution theory, have to resolve to such drastic and desperate mesaures as arresting him for his beliefs. we all know its not about the taxes. Besides, there is NO law which states any American has to pay income tax. One’s personal accumilation of wealth is rightfully his or hers and no one has the right to put their hands in your pockets. In a civilized state thats called theft. anyways I just wanted to remind everyone of a great fact that Dr. Hovind mentioned in one of his lectures, and that is to eat seeds. I mean it, its a serious issue. The seeds contain a crutial Vitamin called B17, which is absolutly necessary for fighting cancers. This B17 vitamin is illiminated from the ‘western’ diet and replaced with pharmaceutical chemicals (also called drugs! lol). Seeds from apples peaches, appricots are great, but make sure you peel them 1st. give this advice to anyone who may be diagnosed with cancer. Im sure everyone knows at least one person with it because it kills 1 in 4 Americans.

anyways have a good one. and pls stop living in fear America.

  8. Steve Rowitt expresses:

I am saddened by people who fail to abide by the rules and eventually bring disgrace upon themselves and other faith based people. This is not a government conspiracy against a convincing creationist. It is a tax evasion case against someone who was playing fast and loose with the tax laws.

I am a BIble believing Pastor who runs a 501C3 ministry. I pay all my taxes and we do not use the ministry as a shelter so that I or others who work with me do not have to pay their fare share of personal taxes.

While Wesley Snipes may not go to jail (that still remains to be seen). He may be allowed to stay out of jail or do the part time jail time so that he can still work and pay his back taxes.

Taxes are not optional, they are part of our duty as citizens of the greatest country on the planet today. When you are told to render unto Caesar, it is the right thing to do. Our taxes do more than provide for our defense, they also provide for the needy and those who are in crisis,e .g. food stamps and welfare, etc.

  9. I am still in shock about what happened to Dr. Hovind. I do not know the condition of his heart, only God does, and I do not agree with not paying taxes, because Jesus told Peter to pay taxes “lest we offend them”. And Christians are to obey the laws of the land, when they do not go against the higher laws of God. Yet, I feel personally that an example is being made of Dr. Hovind. Other people get away with not paying taxes, and nothing happens to them, or it they are caught, their punishments are not as severe as the sentence passed on Dr. Hovind.

  10. David touches upon:

First According to the law paying taxes is optional for all Americans look it up!
    But that aside He Stated More Than Once TO the IRS {Show me the law I broke and I Will fix it.}

    They Never did or would.

It is the individuals in the IRS pushing this that are usurping authority and BREAKING THE LAW!

  11. It never ceases to amaze me the number of nutjobs that the internet brings out over this long, long ago post.

Give under Caesar what is Caesar’s (unless of course you randomly decide that only applies to everyone but you).

The guy was a charlatan. He broke the law, while veiling his actions in the clothes of Christianity. He’s in jail. Where he belongs. Get over it.

  12. millie explains:

    Are you serious!
    The statement
‘He also allegedly payed his employees with cash while calling them “missionaries” to avoid taxes,’

Is Ridiculous, “missionaries” is not just a term people can use so they don’t have to pay taxes, it is someone sent to another country by a church to spread its faith or to do social and medical work, not someone who doesn’t pay taxes.

It is unbelievable what some of you are saying, is it just because he is proving you wrong through his preaching and DVD’s? Or maybe it’s you don’t agree with what he says, I don’t know what you are thinking, but he does not belong in jail.

Well I can guarantee you he is not a liar, maybe just maybe if you went to a Christian church, if you studied the bible or even had a look at the services he has done, you would know God is real!
What else is there? An explosion that was made by no bigger than full stop spinning so fast an explosion occurred, I think not!!!

  13. Did you guys know that there is no law requiring us to pay income Tax??

  14. Michael elucidates:

First of all, the only reason this man is in jail is because he has irrefutable truth that shoots down evolution completely. So the only thing they have to go after him for is taxes. PAYING TAXES IS VOLUNTARY (unless you work for the government). It is also very disturbing how many people have no clue about their rights under the constitution. Our founding fathers tried to protect us from unlimited taxation. “No capitation, or other direct, Tax shall be laid, unless in Proportion to the Census or Enumeration herein before directed to be taken.” United States Constitution, Article 1, Section 9. That means that direct (capitation tax) is prohibited, unlawful. Only a tax that is apportioned is allowed. The government is not your master, the government works for you, Educate yourself: http://www.losthorizons.com/ http://www.sedm.org/Forms/MemLaw/WhoAreTaxpayers.pdf

  15. Amazing how the crazies just keep beating this dead horse!

the only reason this man is in jail is because he has irrefutable truth that shoots down evolution completely.

Yep. It’s illegal you know for someone to be stupid, and so thank goodness we prosecute people for stupidity.

  16. joe Wall expresses:

Well kent hovind is in jail but that doesnt mean his ministry is gonna stop.I heard that there was 18 of 25 guys in jail that are christians too of kent hovind preaching. and i pray that Kent Hovind will fight faithfully for the Lord till the end, and not lose faith.

  17. Rudy van Diermen elucidates:

I am a Pastor in Holland Europe. We greatly enjoy the teachings of Kent Hovind.
The extreme punishment in the USA amazes me. In the Netherlands, yes we would have been indicted to pay the withheld money back to the government, which I believe should also be done in Kent Hovind’s case. But to lock him up for 10 years. Beyond my comprehension.
And that for the example worldwide of a christian nation!

  18. Lawrence Clarkston elucidates:

America has become the very thing the founders of our country rebelled against. Yet there is hope.
